North Shore Times: Snap happy way to learn new technology.
NOT everyone over 55 is knitting or gardening. Some are learning how to deal with the intricacies of digital photography in order to take professional quality photos and even better happy snaps.
To celebrate Seniors Week, the Museum of Contemporary Art has been running a series of photographic workshops for people aged over 55, culminating in an exhibition at the museum on March 26.
Celebrating the contribution seniors make throughout the community, the Snap and Click workshops and touring exhibition have been designed to create exciting and interactive learning opportunities for older Australians, while giving them the skills to explore a new level of photographic self expression.
MCA spokeswoman Clare Willcox said the program drew participants from all over Sydney and was focused on beginners.
"For many of them, it's something different - and as one chap said `it's much better than being offered bingo again' ".
Ms Willcox said the workshops were designed to give the participants more control over digital camera technology.
"Understanding the technical side gives them the confidence to start thinking about things like composition, cropping, editing and so on," she said.
One work per participant will be shown in the exhibition at the MCA on March 26.
